I grew up in Gower and attended Olchfa Comprehensive School before qualifying as a Dentist from the University of Wales College of Medicine in 2004.
I completed my vocational training in general practice in Bradford on Avon in the Wessex deanery and from there moved to Hampshire to work in the community and hospital dental services.
My time in community dentistry allowed me time to work with anxious and medically complicated patients along with carrying out a sedation and general anaesthetic list, this helped prepare me for further jobs in Maxillofacial and Oral surgery. Working in these fields then enabled me to complete my Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons examinations.
I returned to Wales after taking some time out as a Ski instructor in Canada and travelling around South America and Australia. I spent several years working as an associate in general practice in Pencoed and Swansea University before joining Professor Wayne Richards as a partner and at the same time joining Parkway to carry out the paediatric general anaesthetic and sedation list.
Professor Richards retired in 2014 and I took over the practice. Since then I have focussed on modernising and relocating the premises. Richard Amos joined as a partner to help expand the practice whilst maintaining the high standards and ethical values I expect.
Oral surgery has remained one of my professional interests and I have found that I also enjoy teaching, becoming a dental therapist trainer in 2014 and then also a foundation dental trainer in 2015 which is ongoing. As part of this I am also involved in examining final year dental students and a mentor program for underprivileged school pupils to try and help recruit them for medical and dental courses.
My aim professionally is to provide high quality, ethical dentistry within the NHS to make sure my patients have healthy and stable mouths. I enjoy treating all age groups and seeing families grow under my care.
Outside of work I am a director of Swansea Tennis and Squash club and a regular competitor in both sports. I also enjoy water sports, skiing and taking on challenge events for charity such as several marathons, swimming from Europe to Asia and a 100km walk.
